Meet Blue Moon!

Hi, my name is Blue Moon and I am a GeoAnimal from Pinellas Preparatory Academy. I like to swim, cook (using my favorite ingredient- honey!), and ride bikes. This is my first time traveling and I'm very excited to be with you!  I represent the 7th grade "knight" class- girls at PPA.  Please let me hang out with you for 1-2 weeks, then pass me on to someone who will take good care of me like you did.  Whoever has me on April 15, 2011, please send me back to my school.  Please update my blog with all my adventures so that my friends at PPA can see.  Email pictures of my adventures to our adviser, Mrs. DeBaker, at hdebaker@pinellasprep.org, and she will post them :)  Also, you can send postcards, souvenirs, and letters to our school.  The 7th Graders love to get mail! Thank you for helping me travel the world and for taking care of me!

  1. Dear friends,

I am so sorry I have taken so long to let you know about my adventures here in South Africa! I am having a ball and am making many new friends! South Africa is very different than what I am used to but the people here are very nice and love taking photos with me. I have done a community project with Dominique (one of my hosts) and next week I am going with her and all the Graceland preprimary children to go visit the aquarium! I have sent some photos with my letter and will write to you again soon!
    Lots and lots of love,
    Blue Moon

I can only send a few photos at a time sorry! I also just wanted to give the 7th graders a bit of background on the kids we are working with: Graceland is a preprimary school for kids aged 3-5, many of these kids come from a far from ideal home and some suffer from Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (a very common disease in South Africa that occurs when a mother drinks alcohol while she is pregnant) this causes physical abnormalities like abnormal face shape and also mental problems. Many of these kids are also very poor and suffer from abuse at home. The idea for this project (the Christmas project) stemmed from an incident where Lee-Ann (a little 4 year old) had a birthday but hadn't received a single gift. I just felt that these kids need to be spoiled so I started working on this project! We are going to the Aquarium on the 1st of February and the kids are looking SO forward to it! Will keep you up to date!
    Love DOminique
